Update: Roblox has posted an update at 12:30 PM ET that it has identified the cause and solution, and is working on getting the game back up. When I wrote a similar post yesterday, I expected an update from Roblox that morning, but we didn’t get one until 5 PM, so who knows what today will bring. If it was, my guess is that an org already would have taken credit for taking down one of the world’s biggest games for this long. I have absolutely no doubt that everyone at Roblox is working around the clock, even on the weekend, to get this fixed, and it feels like when the game does come back online, they’ll explain exactly what happened, but I am expecting a level of technicality most probably won’t be able to understand, if this is indeed, like they say, not an outside hack that took them out. And it’s bizarre that this is so widespread it’s even affecting their website. Most players were denied access to usually public games, and most pages would redirect to an Error 400 Bad Request. Players were having issues with navigating the site and using Roblox. This reminds me of when PSN used to go down for huge stretches of time ages ago, but while games always struggle with server issues and tech problems, a 60 hour outage stands out. PST, or midnight UTC, Roblox began to have major site-wide issues. It’s hard to even think of other games this large with outages that have lasted this long.
